D’Nyjah French is a 2017 graduate from Independence High School in Arizona. She participated in C-CAP her junior and senior years, and in her senior year she competed in the Final Cooking Competition and won the Christopher Gross and C-CAP Education Scholarships. Through her involvement in C-CAP, D’Nyjah has had the opportunity to attend career readiness programs as well as numerous outside networking opportunities, such as the Sysco Food Event and the Nirvana Food and Wine Festival.
Currently, D’Nyjah works at the Wrigley Mansion in Phoenix as the pantry cook, under the direction of Chef Christopher Gross. She said that her workplace has “a unique charisma about it that draws the employees and customers back every day. I enjoy my job because I have a chance to experience a vast multitude of people on a regular basis.”
In D’Nyjah’s future, however, she sees something different than culinary, as she plans to obtain a photojournalism degree from Estrella Mountain Community College. But she credits C-CAP for all the support she’s received during her involvement: “Without C-CAP, I would not have been able to discover so many new aspects of the culinary world at such a fast pace and support myself along the way.”
