C-CAP Chicago Students Are Getting Real Life Experience

Our Yes Chef Virtual Summer Camp with Kendall College Trust is designed to broaden students’ horizons in culinary, culture and community. We also have an internship program where students go to different locations in Chicago to intern for six weeks. The students will be gaining real-life work skills and experience in a professional kitchen.

C-CAP recently held our summer job training program. Nineteen students worked with C-CAP staff at the Institute of Culinary Education and in virtual sessions to prepare for summer internships. As part of Job Training we offered a tour of the Union Square Green Market where students learned about different produce and products, spoke to vendors about farming and selecting the best product for restaurants, and completed a scavenger hunt for ingredients. We then purchased ingredients and went to the kitchen at The Door to cook for the afternoon and wrap up Job Training. New York is also supporting NYC DOE’s culinary Summer Enrichment Program to help students who did not have in-person classes last year. We visited Academy of Hospitality and Tourism for a knife skills and knife sharpening demo and workshop.
